Martin Luther King polarized entire parts of this country by his actions. He crusaded for the rights of people, not just blacks, and the legislation that has come from that period in our history has been used by all segments of our population. This picture was submitted by a reader whose relative was there, in Selma, during the march.
We are engaged in a struggle, and it certainly will test our resolve. We take comfort that we know the worthiness of our efforts, and that the whole world is watching....

Few people understood what Martin Luther King stood for. Ever wonder why MLK never said "my nigger?" Why MLK never talked "that trash?" We celebrate his life and mourn his death,at what cost...In his famous "I had a dream" speech. Does anyone remember the vision he told of? He saw all people celebrating life together. All people living together without barriers. Who is championing that dream today?! Try going into another neighborhood my brother. Be sure and tell them Brother Martin sent you. Hope you got good life insurance. And you know that MLK would be listening to Gangster Rap! Yeah,that's right...Power to the people! Martin Luther King stood for equality,true enough. But,he also stood for accountability. You want something out of life,then get it in on your ability not your color. Now,there's an idea. But we don't want to hear it. No sir, we want to be able to play the race card. Martin Luther King needs to be remembered for what he stood for and believed in...not because he was an important black leader.
Therein lies the rub!
