Is There a Better Hospital Model???...5/16

Ironic, isn't it? Hud giving the keynote presentation for the GLALI..."Is There a Better Hospital Model? Trust me, Hud, there is. Merely take Essent out of the mix. A much better model. Better patient care, better relations with the community.

They must have been really desperate for a speaker. Looking at Essent's financials, it must have been a paid gig. You just wonder who paid...Essent or the GLALI....

Most if not all of the hospitals have recently suffered 'right sizing'. Most are running with extremely low census.

One actually might think the title appropriate...it's the question he's asking....

Like the hair, Hud? ...it's yours!

For all the "Well, DUH!" questions for Hud to expound upon, this one is so appropriate.

The correct answer could even be found in Nashvile, in one of the many hospitals in the area. Were he to stop playing footsies with- well, better not go there.....but were he to look outside Essent's strip-mall offices, he could throw a rock and hit any of several better examples than his own company- heck, even his old gang at HCA does a better job.

Aerosmith had a song called, Tell me what it takes to let you go.

The words changed in my head to, tell me what it takes to make you go.

DUH!!! No raises, no new equipment being bought or purchased, getting buy with half a$$ management. DUHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

At PRMC some special folks got raises. We're still trying to figure out how they pick and chose who the lucky ones are. A few folks got close to a buck along with a raise last year.

I read the comment about a pt. hanging themselves on the psych. unit, I was curious. I did some checking. The pt. did not die on the psych unit, but later in the E.R. A city employee and an E.R. staff member state that the house supervisor (A.F) falsely reported "hanging/broken neck theory." The theory was incorrect. Guess how Admin. determined there was no hanging?????? They (including Murchison and Grant)went the next day and measured the patient's bed!!!!!!! Don't worry, word is they did fire someone. A security guard says that he watched/heard part of the exchange between the employee and Murchison, last Saturday (lobby, north campus).
Can you say......................
W-H-I-S-T-L-E-B-L-O-W-E-R?!!
Gosh I hope so!!!

9:36, Sorry dude, but I don't work there anymore. Haven't for two years. However, I have a sweet gig in the healthcare industry, still worling what I've trained for, with folks who were like my former co-workers (professionals when it mattered, hard-working, compassionate, fun to be with- I miss you guys), and nothing like the admins (exception being the lab director- a real nice guy who doesn't deserve to be in this mess any more than the rest of the staff) or the departed cheesehead b@st@rd Kreye.

3 years later, after the sale, and things have gone to- well, you know.....with the geniuses in NashVegas at the helm. Direct a hospital? He couldn't direct his nephews to the bathroom!

Just call me a happy Hud refugee....

Does anyone know if law enforcement was contacted about the hanging? Could be a crime if not reported, crimestoppers?

I heard they accused a nurse of hanging the patient, then Murchison fired her.

2:22 am,

That sounds farfetched, even for Essent standards. I'm not buying that wild tale for a dollar.

And I wouldn't have my dog wee on Hud if he were on fire.

As a former psych nurse...a determined suicidal pt can hang themselves by the toilet with a pair of panties... seen it...pt was almost successful. luckily the techs were doing 10min rounds like they were supposed to and cpr was successful.

No crime though...even if the pt was successful. It is not illegal to commit suicide, just a he11 of a lot of paperwork for the facility.

But this story about a North campus pt that did die as a result of self harm does bring about the question. Would they have died if there was an ER/ICU available to work the code in the actual building? Not by calling 911 for a code blue.

I used to work in an ER in another city and it was illegal to attempt suicide....the police came in with the patient and they were handcuffed to their stretcher.

The north campus does run full codes, EMS has to be called for transports to South. The nurses on psych are medical nurses, as well, most are ACLS.

It would be odd for a pt. to hang themselves on the psych unit. The pts. are monitored closely. The point is that the pt. did not hang themselves. Non-psych admin. staff took the gossip and ran with it. Instead of stating they were wrong, admin. fired an excellent nurse. They were doing something right, if the pt. made it to South. Firing someone just assumes guilt. I mean why just fire one person??
I have worked psych for several (Dallas) years. You hate to lose pts. But it happens. In psych, if you can't save the pt., get them off the unit. From what I have read, it sounds like they did that.

I hear you about getting them off the unit. If a person is pronounced in the E.R,ICU,ETC, you follow the normal process. On the psych unit.....different ball of wax. It is bad, but if everyone remains honest, and accepts responsibility, it will pass.

Hud is only qualified to give a keynot speech on being an idiot and a$$hole.
