While not confirmed online, I received notice of another PRMC lawsuit, but this time with them as the defendent:
What makes this interesting is Dr Gunder's pending departure from Paris. That and why a hospitalist is being sued based on an ER turnaway. I imagine we'll see in the months to come...frankJerry Dean, individually and on behalf of the estate of Wanda Dean v. Adam Gunder M.D.; Paris Regional Medical Center LP; EHC PRMC GP, LLC; EHC PRMC LP, LLC; Essent PRMC LP; Essent Healthcare - Paris Inc.
1/25/2008 208cv027(It is a medical malpractice suit, alleging the person died from a heart attack after she was turned away from Paris Regional Medical Center's emergency center. )
Current open cases are:
Ours, of course, the gang of 10 (John Does 1-10, Happy Hour meeting at Applebees on Fridays)
NONA HARRIS VS. KHALID SHAFIQ, M. D., RAPHAEL LUI, M. D., AND ESSENT PRMC, L. P., D/B/A PARIS REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER
WORLDWIDE IMAGING TECHNOLOGIES-TEXAS, LLC VS. ESSENT PRMC, L. P. D/B/A PARIS REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER
DEBRA BROWN AND IN THE INTEREST OF BRITTANY BROWN VS. PARIS REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER
This one has a default judgement, but 01/17/2008 lists an "ORDER GRANTING MOTION FOR NEW TRIAL."
For an interesting read, search the courthouse civil database using "Paris Regional". (More times than not, dismissed by Plaintiff means a settlement prior to jury.) ...f

So, where is Dr. Gunder going and why? I always thought he was a Paris native and this was his dream job.
Is it related to the lawsuit?
Better market? With Wilson and Massar leaving, things might get tighter for appointments, but unless Gunder is replaced, several physicians are going to be seeing their own patient admits instead of turfing them to a hospitalist.
As to leaving and the lawsuit, unlikely.
I am not surprised that Dr. Lui is a defendant in a malpractice suit- the amazing thing to me is that he hasn't been hit with more of them. He is, IMO, the worst heart surgeon on the planet. Most of his patients can be guaranteed a second trip back to OR to fix the screwups Dr. Slipknot made the first time. Between him and a fatal MI, I'd choose the MI.
So where is Wilson and Massar going?
Unknown, but have heard to move closer to family, in both cases.
Right now we're at a point where there are several physicians that are considering retiring. So, if there are physicians looking towards moving here, building a practice will be far easier.
If there aren't any inbound, appointments will be harder to get and farther out with the remaining practices. We really will be in a medically underserved area....
Wilson and Massar are leaving because they are tired of the call crap that comes into this hospital. Moreover; when they do admit a neuro patient or a seriously ill GI patient it is impossible to get them accepted in dallas and ; as everyopne knows, we have urology and GI and Pulmonary coverage only "part time".Why put up with that for the low pay and poor -outlook -for -the -future that exists now.Since 1998 we have lost 13 physicians and replaced only 5 of them .Now Massar , Wilson, Gunder ,Leddy and possibly Sid White .Strom and Kilgore will go Emmeritas in the summer ,so read the tea leaves ; it should be obvious why Janna and Caroline are getting out while they can.
Sad spiral!
Gunder is leaving for a better market, and because his wife doesnt like Paris. Not to mention the crap at the hospital. He fulfilled his contract now, he's gonna scoot outta town ASAP, can't blame him. Wonder why he's implicated in an ER case though, odd?
Janna is leaving because of the crappy way the hospital treats physicians, and the way that the local collegues have treated her as far as call, etc. Not to mention the lack of resources in the town, ie neuro, etc. She's just looking out for her best asset, herself and her medical license! Again, can't blame her for gettin while the gettings good. She will be greatly missed in the community. Caroline too.
I know this is changing the subject. I have a question. My question is: I used to work at the hospital and was wondering why the MD's are not ACLS certified. When I was on the floor it was aweful of how the MD's ran codes. I have been teaching ACLS for about 10 years and I have never seen such sloppiness. I would had never crossed the almighty MD to let him know that he was doing ACLS wrong. I think there could have been a better outcome of pts if the MD's and staff were all trained in ACLS. It may be changing, but time is muscle. Just my two cents worth.
Sid White was the target of the DEA because of loose prescription practices. He saw the writing on the wall.
Heard the rumor that Strom and Kilgore have split? Anybody truth to this? Please post.
