Someone came up with an idea for a JCAHO post: where you can comment on any violations. Actually, it would help keep the hospital honest, and it would help the patients, and isn't that the whole idea of healthcare?
Rather than just cleaning up messes, and pencil-whipping the forms at the last minute, wouldn't it be novel to be doing it right all the time?
Keep your letters and postcards coming, folks!

Let's see...
The black mold growing on the base boards in the old X-ray rooms...
...that's been there atleast four years! Surely a health hazzard!
Many patients have noticed and commented. No wonder this place has such a reputation.
How about the INCHES of dust accumulating in the radiologists reading room! Beverly, get off your broom and start using it!!!!
Blood that has dripped down on the ER gurney's rails, transfer panels, and support pans.
And what about that silver reclamation unit that should be in place in Room #4 of the Radiology department...........hmmm, straight into the sewer, and overflows on a continuous basis, not to mention the light room IN Xray itself. Nothing like a little sewer fumes to help the patient along during their hosptial stay, or a simple visit for a test, say Fluoro by chance, pretty close to that pesky drain that likes to overflow so much!
Oh, and let's NOT forget the LAST JCAHO inspection Xray had. Reams of paper brought down from JR's office in boxes (covered in dust) that had not been even put in chronological order for months.......seems the support person was told to do it! Imagine that, two days before the JCAHO inspection. Beverly was on eggs over that one folks! Didn't save their butts on the fines though, wonder if they've gotten any better on paperwork requirements since that last visit. Would love to see TDH come in and give 'em a surprise visit.
ok what about when the sewer from 5th floor was leaking out on 4th floor every time someone flushed a toilet on 4th. OH and when I was a student in the OR, there was some black gooey junk dripping from the ceiling while the dr. is doin a lap chole. Or the fact that one of the drs in the OR frequently comes in barefoot with only the booties on his feet. Oh and lets definetly not forget the roaches climbing on the walls.
"How often are the pieces of portable equipment wiped down that are used in isolation rooms--and are they used on post-CABG patients??? Since the isolation carts do not have the supplies to clean them.... " clipped from a comment
Look at JCAHO standards for leadership. It's on their website. This whole blog is devoted to the leadership problems, and there is a Joint Commission standard on it.
Read that one. It's very interesting--talking about conflict resolution etc....
We are also below average on Heart attack care, pneumonia, and CHF guidelines, according to JCAHO.

Those are all areas that the levels have been going into a slump for medicare reimbursement rates for drgs.
I just went to JCAHO, I am not a hospital employee. That was a very distrubing report. Why hasn't the Local Snooze picked this up? No wonder so many people are saying "If I get sick take me anywhere but Paris.'
JCAHO also has recomendations regarding the nursing crisis and retention strategies.
Thanks for the comment. --fac_p
This link should be made available:
JCAHO
Complaints
Don't know why the link was off, but seems to be straight now.
There are also staffing JCAHO regulations and suggestions on the web site.
One of JCAHO's standards:
line 72 6. Recognizing that communication, openness, and trust are critical to a hospital’s success, every leader demonstrates and fosters mutual respect and civility.
Yeah, right, an x-ray scream session fosters mutual respect: They have no respect for us, we have no respect for them.
line 267 3. Training is made available to all leaders for each of the following skills:
• identifying and resolving conflict;
• assessing processes from a system-based perspective;
• working with team-based concepts;
• making decisions based on evidence; and
• fostering an environment of mutual respect for other team members.
If it was available, it either wasn't utilized, or they flunked.
line 512 Communication Standard LD.3.30
(Revised from 2006 LD.3.60)
Accurate and usable information related to safety and quality is provided to those who need it, including staff, patients, families, and external stakeholders.
You might say that the blog provides that....

line 1000 Standard LD.4.170
Organizational programs, services, sites, or departments have effective leadership.
Rationale for LD.4.170
Effective leaders at the program, service, site or department level help to create an environment or culture that enables a hospital to fulfill its mission and meet or exceed its goals. They support staff and instill in them a sense of ownership of their work processes. Leaders may delegate work to qualified staff; however, the leaders are ultimately responsible for the care, treatment, or services provided in their area.
Elements of Performance for LD.4.170
1. The program, service, site, or department leaders oversee operations.
2. Programs, services, sites, or departments providing patient care are directed by one or more qualified professionals or by a qualified licensed independent practitioner with clinical privileges.
3. Responsibility for the administrative and clinical direction of these programs, services, sites, or departments is defined in writing.
What in this place is in writing?
Gotta Love it, Decisions made on HEARSAY evidence is the norm here.
Oh, X-ray your time is coming.
What goes around, comes around.
Re:7:33
Maybe that't the reason they run around in BDUs...do they get latrine duty if they have a brain-fart?
JCAHO now does not have to give prior notice of their inspections........and I hope and pray, that a surprise visit is in the near future. Let's just hope some of this info is making it's way to them. The last inspection we were told in Xray NOT TO TALK TO THEM! Imagine that.. WAY TO GO BEV! It would serve this community well if it did. Couldn't happen to a better bunch of management morons!
If they only understand MONEY (in the form of heavy fines).........perhaps THIS would be the vehicle by which Andrew and his Zoo crew would be given a "heads up"and be forced to get down to the business of HEALTHCARE (which is slipping into nothingness) not to mention the mind numbing control tactics on personnel.
And when they come in, I think employees should "let 'er rip" with the JCAHO folks. Let them know exactly what the heck is going on!
Essent declared war on this community and set the rules by which to play ..........it is OUR turf here in Paris, so I say LET'S PLAY BOYS!
Ooh, I just love a good shoot 'em up.

Looks like you got your wish! Yeehaw! 'bout time!
Is JACHO really coming???
From what was said on the other post, they have come.
Unless it was the state, but apparently questions have been asked.
The other thing is, I believe that one or both can investigate specific allegations without doing a full inspection, something like OSHA.
It's been too quiet? What's going on?
