What To Do With South?....5/30

With all the thoughts going towards the move north, you wonder about the plans for the South campus.... Maybe that's why Kevin Gross from RehabCare was appointed to the Essent board. RehabCare has ambitions of owning 17 rehab hospitals by the end of this year, according to its CEO, although the economy may have brought about a change in that timetable.

Or, maybe Kevin's appointment was a backstop in September, but with the uncertainty in the financial markets, it may be significantly longer, if that indeed, was the plan.

On the other hand, maybe he's there to scope out what Essent might have available should they not keep their head above water....

PRMC south is a huge plant for a rehab hospital. I think Baylor Rehab is perhaps 50 beds (just guessing). And, that's in Dallas, not Paris.

I must be missing something.

They're in a quandry, they can't really leave it--too great a tax drain. A true rehab facility, pulling from the same area that the hospitals previously covered, might be a money-maker. Possibly facility sharing with a substance rehab? Or a psych floor?

Another alternative is selling it to the competition, which they'd never do. The fear of valid competition is what got us here in the first place.

This was in the local newspaper today!

Hospital grounds

I just came from taking a walk around Merrimack Valley Hospital and Medical Center and it's quite a contrast from when it was first taken over. The grounds are a mess. I've never seen so many cigarette butts. It's a disgrace and I think something should be done about it.

Mr Pitchford YOU MUST BE PROUD!!!!

And demolishing the building would be way too traumatic for the locals, especially those who hold the old St. Joseph's near & dear to their hearts. Of course, somewhere L.P. would be laughing hysterically should that happen.

Personally, I don't think Essent thought this out too clearly (yeah, I know, what else is new?).

To the blogger talking about the condition of the MVH grounds...with the facilities department being made to lay off employees, the 'survivors' (who already had too much work to do) have to take up the slack...the HGOGS mis-management is coming around to bite them in the assets! Stay tuned for more complaints - perhaps the good old girls could go outside and do some police call?!

OK so if you can't get patients to go to the Essent Facility lets have a shoppoing event "shop as you drop" per the Marketing Director.

Post on the MVH website!

Upcoming Events and Latest MVH News
3rd Annual Ladies Night at MVH!
Merrimack Valley Hospital is pleased to announce the Third Annual Ladies Night Out will be Thursday, June 4 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

This year's event will be bigger and better than ever with two floors filled with shopping and surprises! There will be a special fashion show of sassy and flashy clothes, designer shoes, jewelry, makeup and more!

There will be fun for everyone with cooking, yoga, wellness and facial demonstrations as well as chair massages and even psychic readings. The owner of Keon’s 105 Bistro, Alan Boisvert, will be on hand to sign copies of his new cookbook, and to offer tasty samples of his favorite recipes.

Attendees will be able to shop until they drop for a spectrum of crafts and jewelry made by local artisans.

Seating is limited for the fashion show so pre-register early for seating! Registration is strongly recommended. Refreshments will be provided.

The event is at Merrimack Valley Hospital, 140 Lincoln Ave., Haverhill 01830.

Shop 'til you drop--a joke, right? Or are they really that desperate that they'll make their own patients?

Anonymous said...

Are they desperate - One would think so. Other hospital's have health informational night not at MVH you can get a cookbook signed - watch a fashion show - and buy a necklace. Also, they must catered to women only "ladies night out" I don't remember hearing about "Mens night out". Hopefully they will clean the hospital inside/outside for this occasion.

"Attendees will be able to shop until they drop" Is that how they are hoping to increase the census.

"even psychic readings" - Will the psychic encourage you to go to MVH????

"This year's event will be bigger and better than ever with two floors filled with shopping and surprises!" Is the expansion due to no patients?

Maybe the patients are the suprise? "Here, you've won a patient! Be sure to collect him on your way out!"

...and the reaction at home when you announce that you won Mr. Smith as a door prize....

Seating is limited - can't be because of patients. There isn't any!

Wow, is Massachusetts turning into California East? Chair massages? Psychic readings? Yoga? Gee, where I come from, a hospital was generally used to MAKE SICK PEOPLE BETTER, not for artsy-fartsy stuff.

Will the psychic see the future of MVH! Will it stay open or close. Will they have patients or will it become a shopping mall.

Anonymous said...

Maybe that's what they need to do with South--a shopping mall. More likely a flea market--but would fleas be caught there?

"I feel there is an event coming in your life". Better get a stress test done and there's no waiting....

Instant sale. Psychic marketing. Maybe have that at the health fairs?

I don't need a mammogram or a bone denisty but I do need a new pair of earring. Do I go to the Mall - No wait I can go to Merrimack Valley Hospital. Who says Haverhill doesn't have enough stores.

"Merrimack Valley Hospital held a luncheon in honor of its many volunteers during National Volunteer Week in April". Per Mr. Collins:"I wish to express my appreciation to all of the volunteers at Merrimack Valley Hospital. They are a valuable asset to our organization and provide support to our patients and staff. We are all very grateful," said hospital CEO Michael Collins.

I worked at MVH and it is common knowledge that Mike Collins does not support the volunteers and he is not grateful. He is very vocal about how he feels about the volunteers. He think they're useless.

I HAD SUCH A CHUCKLE WHEN I READ ABOUT MR COLLINS COMMENT ON THE VOLUNTEERS. HE DOESN'T BELIEVE THEM TO BE A VALUABLE ASSET TO THE MVH.

This week it was announced that Pediatrics would be moved south at PRMC.As a result, two long time experienced pedi RN's have tendered their resignations 2 m0re are actively seeking another position. It seems that the ongoing "crises" that pervades this shit hole had died down a little , so the administratium decided to crank things up a bit. It seems the admin cant get anyone to work at south 5th floor so the "bright ones " in administratium decided to kill two birds with one bolder and make the pedi Rns cover the sick and dying on 5 when they were not busy with sick children.(am I the only one who is concerned about sick old people being exposed to the super viruses that kids have?)The "bright ones" cant understand why the nurses are quitting:after all , isnt a nurse able and willing to do anything for dear old Essent? NOT!!
